It amaze me to know since

It amaze me to know since October of 2000 when I first founded Youth In power, Inc. I have notice more than a few organizations have come up with the name.

P.s. I have had this name since 2000. Three years ago someone stole our web domain name.

Youth in Power

Dear Founder and CEO of Youth in Power, Inc of Chicago,

Thank you for your comments. A name that a group of people decides on represents their spirit and aspirations. In communities across North America, youth are mobilizing for change, to empower themselves and contribute to their communities. The name Youth in Power was chosen for this local group in Smith Falls Ontario, Canada, to represent that spirit of action, positive contribution, the spirit of community. In Smiths Falls, where many challenges exist historically and at present, this group is a beacon of hope, where people do not lie down in the face of personal adversity or the difficulty of their surroundings but rather create something to be proud of out of it. Whereas nothing that our leaders and our current system offer us thus far can represent real responsibility or inspire what is possible, the push must come from where we are now, from the unexpected, from those young enough to know that each day is a learning experience and old enough to get involved and take personal and social responsibility. That is Youth in Power. We are happy that other organizations share the name, where they share aspirations like this.

Youth in Power has not sought to trademark its name, but no trademark does exist on the name Youth in Power in Canada and so far Youth in Power has not sought exclusive use of the name. A trademark sought for the name in Canada could be sought through application to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, where services and wares under that name would be traded in Canada, for profit or non-profit purposes. In order to protect a domain name, you likely know that it requires maintaining current registration, it appears unethical to appropriate a domain that is clearly being used but has become available in this way, but there is little one can do - we sympathize with that situation and shall take it as a lesson to maintain the registration of youthinpower.ca

We truly wish you the best with your organization, and for the youth in America - from our community in Canada to yours. Be well,

Arif Jinha
web coordinator
Youth in Power.

The Work of YIP

Hello everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the members of Youth in Power for the extraordinary work that you have been doing. It was wonderful meeting some of you to discuss the issues faced by people in El Salvador. It was amazing that you were able to focus on others by providing a soccer ball and money for a high school scholarship in the region of St. Vicente. There are thousands of youth who want to go to high school there, however it is not possible because of the economic situation. They must work so that their families can eat. The prices of corn and flour have doubled there in the past year so people are struggling. One reason given is because a lot of corn is being grown worldwide and used for ethanol for cars thus affecting the cost for food corn.
Secondly, I would like to comment on the Community Forum that was held in Smiths Falls. Your efforts were amazing. I was so proud of Matt and Josh who were able to represent you guys and your desire for a healthy vibrant community in such a passionate way.
It was great to see Ryan's photos...what an artistic eye! You did a splendid job with the food and what a huge crowd you had. I have the newspaper article about the forum on the bulletin board of my office door at the college. Way to go everyone!
I look forward to meeting with you to show you pictures from the Salvaide delegation.
Keep up the wonderful work. I am extremely proud of your efforts!

Community Forum-Looking Forward

You are all to be congratulated on the excellent community forum which I was fortunate to attend last Saturday. It was extremely well organized and the panel of speakers, as well as the workshops, were excellent. I left feeling very optimistic about the future of our county. Don't stop in your efforts to improve prospects in Smiths Falls. Now is your time to take action that will have long term effects that shape the future. There isn't anything you cannot accomplish if you go for it - you have all the qualities that you need right now - initiative, intelligence and enthusiasm. Congratulations and thank you!!!

Groups working with groups

Good to any group coming together to better themselves and their surroundings. It makes it enjoyable to support a group like this.

Hello

Hey everyone,
Keep up the great work! Your efforts are entirely selfless and admirable. I hope you are all proud of the difference you are making in your community and the Ottawa Valley. Coming from a small town myself it is encouraging and refreshing to see youth have such a positive outlook on their surroundings! It is easy to be critical and apathetic concerning local issues; it takes courage and character to get involved to make one's community a better place for everybody.

The definition of social

The definition of social change has become very convoluted not only in our own community but within our global community.
Is it time for action? Yes
Is it time for change? Yes
What a relief to finally have some concrete social ideas that generate positive community action.

"Never underestimate that a small group of dedicated citizens can change the world".
MARGARET MEAD

Don't undersestimate this merry band of youth..They just might be responsible for changing YOUR community.

Congratulations to YIP

This group represents a beacon of hope for the community and beyond. Their positive energy is what is needed and it is wonderful that they have a place from which to launch ideas and action. I attended the fund/food raising rummage sale and was so impressed by the youth represented there. Polite, bright and welcoming. We are looking forward to the winter games this weekend.
